Missouri Military Academy’s Bryson Powell was a winner for the second time this season.
Powell finished first Monday at the Clopton Hamburger Meet in Clarksville after running a time of 17:26.33, beating runner-up Elsberry’s Dashaun Dodson by almost 30 seconds. Gerardo Quiroga and Malachi Imrie finished in the top 20, and Wayland Evans, Michael Pfeifer and Albert Ogutu gave MMA three more top-30 runners for a third-place team effort.
Powell won his second event of the season after taking first in MMA’s home meet Sept. 7 with a season-best time of 17:04.90. Quiroga was 16th with a time of 19:38.57, Imrie was 19th with a time of 20:00.84, Evans was 23rd with a time of 20:22.81, Pfeifer was 26th with a time of 20:32.05 and Ogutu was 28th with a time of 20:38.98.
The Colonels finished with 65 points to trail behind winner Elsberry’s 33 points and runner-up Bowling Green’s 38 points.
Van-Far’s Childs finishes 16th
Van-Far’s Erin Childs was coming off a 15th-place finish and didn’t stray too far from that Monday in Clarksville.
Childs finished 16th with a time of 26:47.24 at the Clopton Hamburger Meet after taking 15th at a meet hosted by North Callaway on Oct. 1. Richard Hayden was 49th in the boys’ 5,000 meters with a time of 24:22.26.
Winfield’s Kadence Berry was the girls’ winner after posting a time of 20:32.58.
Three Paris runners finish in top 10
Two days after finishing in the top 20 at Gans Creek in Columbia, the same three Paris runners earned top-10 finishes Monday at the Clopton Hamburger Meet in Clarksville.
Mairyn Kinnaman was Paris’ best finisher at the Brian T. Simpson Invite in 11th place and was the top runner again for the team, placing third with a time of 22:04.06. Alexandra Tullius joined her in the top five by racing to a time of 23:07.20. In the boys’ 5,000 meters, Landen Chapman took eighth after running to a time of 18:58.33.
For the boys, Brayden DeOrnellas finished 38th with a time of 21:26.78, and David Elzea had a 44th-place time of 22:51.43.
