Gary L. Keeton II, 32, of Montgomery City, was transported to University Hospital for serious injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle accident on Monday, Jan. 17 on eastbound I-70, just east of mile marker 144.2, in Callaway County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occured when the eastbound 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Keeton, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck the median cable. The Pontiac continued under the cable and traveled onto the westbound lane of I-70 and struck a 2012 Ford Expedition, driven by Jacey L. Sewell, 20, of Wellsville. Both vehicles came to rest on the north side of the westbound lane.
Sewell was wearing a seatbelt; it is unknown if Keeton was wearing his seatbelt at the time. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. Time of the accident was
2 p.m.
