North Callaway defeats Wellsville-Middletown

The North Callaway baseball Thunderbirds improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Eastern Missouri (EMO) Conference Thursday with a 15-4 win over Wellsville-Middletown.

Matt Weber collected the win, throwing four innings, allowing four runs - three earned; and two hits. Weber only walked one W-M batter while striking out six.

Braydn O’Neal led the offensive attack, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. O’Neal also mixed it up on the basepaths with five steals.

After six games, the Thunderbirds had 30 steals as a team without being caught. In Thursday’s game alone, they had eight.

“We played a lot better baseball than we played in the last game,” said coach Zeth Lavy.

Lavy’s speaking of their game against Bowling Green earlier in the week which ended in a 7-1 loss. Bowling Green batters sprayed the ball around the field and several of their hits were of the “seeing-eye” variety.

D.J. Feldmann got the win for Bowling Green; Sam Pezold took the loss, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits and four walks.

North Callaway bats were quiet, with three hits.

Bowling Green was undefeated after the game at 5-0 and 3-0 in the EMO.

Friday’s game at Clopton was postponed due to weather.
Wellsville-Middletown fell to 0-4 with the loss.

In the junior varsity contest, North Callaway defeated W-M 13-0, improving to 1-1.

The Thunderbirds head to Elsberry Thursday with a 5 p.m. game time.
