There was little drama in last Thursday’s conference match-up between the North Callaway Thunderbirds and the Louisiana Bulldogs, as the Callaway girls successfully defended their home court, soaring to a 59-8 Senior Night victory. Callaway opened up with an 18-0 lead after the first quarter and they held Louisiana to only three first-half points.
All four Callaway seniors - Makenna Allen, Trinity Brush, Taylor Head and Hayley Kimbley - started and each one scored for Senior Night. Allen had 10 points and added 5 steals; Brush had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman Abrielle Burgher led all scorers with 20 points, including two 3-pointers.
“It’s always good to come away with a win on Senior Night,” said coach Morgan Beamer.
The win improves North Callaway to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Eastern Missouri (EMO) Conference. Louisiana fell to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the EMO.
Cheerleader Layla Green was also honored during Senior Night ceremonies.
Boys beat Louisiana
The North Callaway boys improved to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in the EMO Conference with a 55-44 win at home Friday night.
Matthew Weber led Callaway with 18 points; Cody Cash had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals; and Noah Scrogum had 6 rebounds.
Mason Washington led Louisiana with 17 points. Louisiana stands at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Callaway offense explodes vs. Paris
North Callaway shooters lit it up for 90 points Saturday in Mexico against Paris during Gary Filbert Tournament play. Callaway led 56-13 at the half and never looked back collecting the 90-29 win.
Weber led the Thunderbirds with 21 points, including four 3-pointers; Webb Langworthy had 18 points off the bench, also with four 3-pointers. Scrogum had 15 points and freshman Sam Pezold had 11 points and 6 rebounds off the bench. Cash had 9 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Sophomore Braydn O’Neal led the team with 7 assists.
The win pulls Callaway to the .500 mark, at 4-4, entering the Christmas break.
“It was a good team effort,” said coach Matt Miller.
All 11 Callaway players got playing time in the contest.
Reese Barton led Paris with 11 points. Paris falls to 2-5 overall with the loss.
Callaway girls fall to Paris
The Callaway girls fell 34-27 to Paris Saturday in Gary Filbert Tournament play in Mexico , dropping to 1-5 overall for the season. Callaway mounted an impressive 9-point flurry in the third quarter to pull within a point, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Kyanne Kellerman led Callaway with 8 points and 11 rebounds, adding 5 steals.
Nicole Skinner had 14 points for Paris.
“The girls played hard,” said coach Morgan Beamer. “Our shots just didn’t fall.”
