Five North Callaway athletes will make a return trip to Montgomery County High School on May 22 to compete in the Class 3 sectional meet.

Seniors Dakota Cash and Hayley Kimbley, junior Ryelle Schmauch, sophomore Brendan Reinhard and freshman Pressley Schmauch qualified for sectionals after placing in the top four in their respective events at the Class 3, District 4 championship meet on May 15 at MCHS.

Cash turned in the best finish out of the five sectional qualifiers, placing second in the 100 in 11.62 seconds. Ryelle Schmauch came in third in the pole vault in 8 feet, 6 inches, and Reinhard (high jump), Kimbley (javelin) and Pressley Schmauch (3,200) each finished fourth.

“It shows that we put in the work, especially us five,” Cash said. “We work all around and do what it takes to get it done and go to sectionals. That’s the North Callaway way.”

Cash will be making his second trip to sectionals. When he was a sophomore, he finished fourth in the 100 at districts to earn a sectional berth.

Kimbley, Reinhard and the Schmauchs will compete at sectionals for the first time.

Cash finished second by three-hundredths of a second to Centralia’s Seth Beard in the 100. He came into the sectional meet seeded fourth.

“I had a good start,” said Cash, who finished second in the 100 in four other meets this season. “I came out of the blocks very nice. I didn’t finish as well as I would like to, but it was a good start. If I work on my finish, I will get a better time. I’ll get that worked out this week and see what I could do at sectionals.”

Cash said he hopes to wrap up his high school track career with a trip to state. The top four finishers in each event at sectionals qualify for the Class 3 state meet on May 29 at Jefferson City.

“It’s going to take everything I have and all I got,” Cash said. “We’ll see.”

Kimbley finished with a throw of 95 feet, 10 inches in the javelin, nearly two feet from her personal-best 97-4.5 in her second-place finish at the Eastern Missouri Conference meet on May 5 at North Callaway.

Ryelle Schmauch tied her season-best vault at districts. The junior also finished with an 8-6 in her fifth-place finish at the Montgomery County Invitational on April 19.

Reinhard finished with a 5-10 in the high jump. Two months ago, he won the event in a personal-best 5-10.75 in the season-opening Montgomery County Early Invite.

“I really wasn’t expecting too much for today,” Reinhard said. “I’m a sophomore, so I figured if I do it, I will do it. That will be really cool. If I don’t, I still have two more years on me. But I’m glad that I did it and I’m ready for sectionals.”

Pressley Schmauch finished with a season-best time of 12 minutes, 15 seconds in the 3,200, surpassing her previous-best time of 12:35 that was set in her first-place finish at the Centralia Classic on May 10.

“I’m super excited,” the freshman said. “I hope I can keep on working hard to make it to state.”

North Callaway finished ninth in both boys and girls divisions at districts. The girls team had 35 points, while the boys squad had 30.

The Thunderbirds got fifth-place finishes from senior Makenna Allen in the 300-meter hurdles, their 400-meter relay team of freshman Corynne Miller, juniors Kyanne Kellerman and Mackenzie Eaker and senior Taylor Head, their 800-meter relay team of Miller, Kellerman, Eaker and Head, senior Grant Eichman in the 800 and senior Joshua Selby in the javelin.
