The Community R-6 junior high and high school athletics program held their athletic banquet last Thursday, May 4 at the high school. Students were recognized for their participation in each sport, coaches highlighted the season, and other awards were given to outstanding athletes in honor of previous alumni.

The banquet kicked off with the Community R-6 Booster Club acknowledging parent volunteers Cindy Fort and Carol Rohan. Fort is a former officer of the booster club as well as a dedicated volunteer. With her youngest son, Lance, graduating this spring, the booster club wanted to acknowledge her contributions. Carol Rohan was acknowledged for the countless hours she spent handling the concession stand, ordering and picking up supplies from Sam’s Club, and other volunteer duties. Coach Tad Shotten was presented the final booster club award for his assistance with a variety of projects throughout the school year.

Junior High Individual Awards

Junior High Softball

-          Offensive Player of the Year, Lydia Hoyt who averaged .379, 11 hits and 11 stolen bases

-          Hard Work and Effort Award, Myla Carroll who was always one of the first athletes at practice and usually one of the last to leave.

-          Team Player, Macy Poindexter as she played various positions for the team.

-          Most Improved Player, Bailey Miller, the first baseman

Track

-          Central Activities Conference Champions: Caden Thomas in the discus and Grace Welch in the 100m hurdles

-          9 Junior High Records were broken this year. Three for the girls and six for the boys.  Those included:

o   Myla Carroll, shot put, 30’11.25”

o   Kerragan Matich, high jump, 4’2”

o   Lydia Hoyt, Kerragan Mach, Cooper Schafer, and Katlynn Arens, the 4x400 m relay

o   Rhett Curtis, shot put, 36’5”

o   Ezra Johnson, Colton Peak, Layton Wright, and Caden Thomas, 4x100m relay

o   Layton Wright, 100m hurdles

o   Caden Thomas, boys high jump, 4’8.75”

o   Will Swaim, Layton Wright, Caden Thomas, and Katavyn Wheeler, 4x400m relay

o   Earlier in the season, Ezra Johnson broke and held the boys’ high jump record, but ultimately, at the same meet, Thomas broke it.

-          The team was named as an Academic All-State Team with a 3.76 GPA. Nine girls had a 3.7 GPA or higher. They were: Olivia Kuda, Ivy Hays, Lydia Forbis, Adrianna Woodson, Sarah Angel, Olivia Schafer, Brooklynn Glasgow, Rylee Rafferty, and Jocelyn Curtis
