Rose Marie Fischer

Rose Marie Fischer of St. Andrew’s Nursing Home in New Florence, formerly of Montgomery City, passed away on May 20, 2023 at the age of 84. She passed away after a long fight with Parkinson’s. She was known for her caring nature, quick smile and sense of humor.

Rose was born on August 23, 1938 in Wichita, Kan. to Leslie V. and Esther L. (Miller) Hartgrove. She married Robert A Fischer on December 28, 1957 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Centralia. He preceded her in death in 1995. She was a graduate of Centralia High School class of 1956. She also received an Associate of Arts degree from Hannibal LaGrange, and a Bachelor of Science in English Education from Missouri Valley. She also obtained an Associate of Science in Medical Records Technology from St. Charles Community College in 1994.

Rose was a caseworker for over 10 years at the Division of Family Services of Montgomery County. She then began working in skilled nursing centers while pursuing certification as a CAN, CMT, and Records Technician.

Rose drew her strength daily from her genuine love and faith in the Lord, and daily devotion in prayer. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church of Montgomery City. While there, she participated in choir, Sunday School and the UMW. She was also involved with the Lioness Club, and enjoyed eating lunch at the Senior Center.

Rose enjoyed puzzles and games of any kind, especially with her grandchildren. She loved traveling, often inviting family and friends for adventures and a lifetime of memories. Adventuring with Rose was always an interesting time.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister; Ruth E. Toalson Lewis.

Rose is survived by four children: Robert E. Fischer of Macon; Elizabeth C. Whitney of Frankfort, Ind.; Mark V. Fischer of Fulton; John W. Fischer of Montgomery City, and daughter-in-law Patricia Fischer. She is also survived by her brother: David O. Hartgrove of Centralia and sister-in-law; Cheryl Hartgrove. Four grandchildren: Joshua (Chelsi) Fischer, Ryan (Alisha) Whitney, Aaron (Jennifer) Fischer, and Megan (Jacob) Berck. Two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at First United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Montgomery City, Mo. A celebration of life was held on May 25, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Presbyterian Church, with a second visitation from noon until the time of service.

Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montgomery City Lions Club at P.O. Box 173, Montgomery City, Mo 63361 (Please include a return address for a thank you card, and specify if you wish to donate to the Eye Tissue Bank.) Donations can also be made to the Montgomery County Senior Center.
