Roy Whanger, 96, previously of Auxvasse was called to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020.

He was born in Mokane, on Oct. 15, 1924 to the late Walter K. Whanger and the late Marguerite (Stauffer) Whanger. He grew up learning the value of hard work by pulling his weight on the family farm.

On Oct. 25, 1948, Roy was united in marriage to Ruth (Laws) Whanger. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2014. To this union, three children were born: Darrell, Ron, and Joyce

Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. For more than 32 years, he worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation, retiring as the Auxvasse Shed Foreman. Roy was a member of the Mexico Church of Christ for over 75 years. During that time, he served as an elder at the Mexico Church. Roy enjoyed collecting Keen Kutter tools and was an avid deer hunter. He went on his last deer hunt at age 90! Most will remember Roy as a kind and gentle soul who could tell a captivating story and quote poetry to friends, family and those he just met, as no one was a stranger.

Roy will be fondly remembered by son, Ron Whanger (Michelle) of Mexico; daughter, Joyce Ingle (David) of Iowa; brother, Randall Whanger of Bridgeton; grandchildren, Rachel Whanger, Beth Lyles, Randy, Ryan, and Rodney Ingle, and Jordan and Kyle Whanger; 17 great-grandchildren, and another on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and love of his life Ruth, Roy was greeted in Heaven by his son, Darrell Whanger; grandson, Daniel Whanger; brothers, Russell and Raymond Whanger; and sister, Meta Whanger Owen.

Private graveside services with military honors will be held in Callaway Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will be held at Pleasant Hill Church of Christ in Iowa at a later date.

Memorial donations are suggested to Central Missouri Honor Flight, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
