Community R-6 will have a bit of a bigger presence at the Class 1 state meet this Friday and Saturday.

Victoria DiSalvo will return for the third straight year after making the top four in two events Saturday at the Class 1 Sectional 1 meet in New Haven. The senior finished third in the girls 100 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles while another senior, Gavin Allen, will appear in his first state meet after taking third in the boys javelin with a school-record-breaking throw of 46.75 meters — previous record was owned by Allen at 40.99 meters. Allen is the first Community boys state qualifier since 2019.

DiSalvo almost made it to three state events as she and the girls 4x100 relay team of Sarah Angel, Adriana Woodson and Alyssa Beamer finished fifth while setting a new season-best time of 56.45.

The pair compete Friday and Saturday in the Class 1 state meet at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.

Missouri Military Academy bringing back-to-back athletes to state, Van-Far’s Gibson misses

Missouri Military Academy will have a couple cadets appearing at state for the second straight year this Friday and Saturday.

At the Class 2 Sectional 2 meet at South Shelby in Shelbina, Bryson Powell qualified in the 1600 after finishing second to try to move into the top eight to medal this year after nearly missing in 10th place last year. Gabe Canonico is also going in back-to-back years after finishing second in the 300 hurdles.

The pair compete Friday and Saturday in the Class 2 state meet at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.

Van-Far’s season ended at the same meet as its lone sectional qualifier of Gage Gibson was seventh in the boys 300 hurdles to miss qualification.

Paris qualifies group for Class 1 state meet

Paris will be increasing its numbers at the Class 1 state meet this Friday and Saturday.

The school qualified in four events last year but will have athletes in seven events at the state meet at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City. Drew Williams was the top finisher for Paris at Saturday’s Class 1 Sectional 2 meet at South Shelby in Shelbina as he won the boys 800 and will go for a third straight state medal — finished seventh in 2021 and eighth in 2022.

Williams also finished second in the boys 4x800 relay along with Landen Chapman, Brayden DeOrnellas and Clayton Duncan. Colton Kendrick advanced to his third straight boys pole vault state competition as he finished third on Saturday.

Some Lady Coyotes will be returning to the state meet for the first time since 2019 as Mairyn Kinnaman finished second in the 3200 and third as part of the 4x800 relay team with Sophia Crusha, Emma Ashenfelter and Kaylee Johnson.
