Audrain County Eastern District commissioner Leslie Meyer appeared before the Missouri Senate committee for gubernatorial appointments. Meyer was appointed by Gov. Mike Parson in November.
During her time in Jefferson City, Meyer appeared in the Senate Lounge where Sen. Dave Schatz introduced her and her background to the committee. Schatz stepped in for Sen. Jeanie Riddle who could not be in attendance. Schatz, senator of the 26th District, is the chairman of the committee.
“It was a little surreal,” Meyer said. “I’ve watched appointment confirmations on national news networks, so I was a little nervous, but welcomed any questions from the committee.”
Even though she was ready to field questions, Meyer said, the committee was nice and didn’t give her a hard time.
“Of course, my nerves were really for nothing as I was congratulated on the governor’s appointment and all of the hard hitting questions like ‘Will the State Fair still serve corn dogs?’ were saved for others,” she laughed.
The committee met after the appointment introductions and approved the slate of appointments. The Senate voted the next day to approve the list. Other appointments included Wayne Wallingford to lead the Missouri Department of Revenue, appointments to the Missouri State Fair committee, and one appointment to the University of Missouri curators.
