Shirley Joan (Hoover) Humphreys, 82, of Auxvasse passed away in St Louis on April 19, 2021. Her husband, Dennis Lee Humphreys, 84, also of Auxvasse, passed away in St Louis on May 9, 2021.
Shirley was born March 8, 1939 to parents Venita and Ernest Hoover of Auxvasse. She was the Auxvasse Elementary School secretary for over 30 years.
Dennis was born Jan. 30, 1937 to parents Katherine and Allen Humphreys of Auxvasse. He worked for Kaiser/National Refractories for nearly 50 years.
Shirley and Dennis became high school sweethearts attending Auxvasse High School. They were married on July 12,1957 at Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse and they would have celebrated their 64th anniversary this past July. They resided in Auxvasse until they both retired in 2000. Following retirement, they pursued their dream of becoming year round campground hosts in local state parks. These activities brought great joy and purpose to their lives and they were able to enjoy 15 years of attending bluegrass concerts and the company of fellow campers from across the country. They spent most of their retirement years in Branson.
Shirley and Dennis were predeceased by their parents: Venita and Ernest Hoover and Katherine and Allen Humphreys.
They are survived by their two sons and their spouses, Steve and Betsy Humphreys of St. Louis and Mark Humphreys and Dave Ferguson of Camden, Maine; three grandchildren, Katherine Humphreys of St. Louis, Sarah and Ethan Underwood of Atlanta Ga., and David Humphreys and Justine Grote of Alton Ill.
Shirley is survived by her sister Edith Loyd of Branson and brother Alan Hoover of Auxvasse.
Dennis is survived by his sister Dorothy Crump of Auxvasse. They also have many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
