Moenaisa Sidique took gold in the girls 400 meter dash, Raef Yager won the boys high jump and ten Bulldogs recorded personal bests despite dripping skies at Boonville’s Jack McCush Invitational on Friday.

For Sidique and Yager it was their second consecutive victories in their respective events. Yager also earned silver in the triple jump with a personal record mark of 39’0.

“Continuous rain for about five hours in very cool conditions and very good competition made for a challenging meet,” said Mexico head coach Buck Green.

Sidique broke the string at 1:02.30 – two seconds off her previous winning time, an indication of the weather’s impact. She was also part of the 4x400 relay team with Cora Ransom, Alexis Smythe and Sidney Turlington that finished fourth.

The 4x200 put Sidique in the mix with Smythe, Turlington and Ella Raines. They crossed sixth.

Mexico took second in both the boys 4x100 and 4x800. Ian Williams anchored the sprint, with Dante Billups, Evan DiBlasi and Anthony Shivers linking up fro a 46.30. In the distance relay, Meki Owens, Thomas Peuster, Tyler Quinlan and Race Azdell formed the lineup.

“We had last minute, patched together relays due to illness and injuries that really performed quite well,” Green observed.

In the girls competition, Anna Fairchild took third in the 1,600 meter run, with teammate Kali Turlington following in eighth. Rylea Miller cleared a personal record 7’0 in pole vault to come in fourth and Smythe’s 29.84 time in the 200 dash put her in fifth.

Sidney Turlington added another top ten in the 800 meters.

Mexico’s boys put in a strong performance. Williams earned silver in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.90, a fraction behind Chillicothe’s Braxten Johnson. Kanye Nunnelly followed up Yager’s PR in triple jump with a personal record of his own – a mark of 38’10, good enough for third.

Anthony Shivers ran a PR time of 23.60 in the 200 dash, putting him in fourth. Quinlan finished fourth in the 800 run, a personal mark of 2:17.

Fulton’s Courtland Simmons won the 100 dash, as well as the 400. Just a half a second behind him in a tight 100 race, Dante Billups came in fifth with a PR time of 12.01.

Other Mexico personal records on the day were Guy Fairchild’s 5:18 time in the 1,600 run, placing him in fifth. Peuster also had a fifth and PR in the 3,200, crossing in 11:05. Scout Jones’ throw of 38’08 was a shot put PR, as was Morgan Grubb’s 54.70 time in 400.

Community, MMA, Centralia and Paris visit the Westran Relays

At the Westran Relays in Huntsville, Laken Edwards of Paris won the boys 300 meter hurdles while Community R-6’s Paige Meyer continued to flirt with a school record in the girls high jump competition.

Edwards had a strong outing. He clipped the string at 44.50 to lead the 300 hurdles field after taking silver in the 110 hurdles. He landed fourth in the triple jump.

Missouri Military Academy and Centralia also participated in the meet. The Colonels’ top performance came in the boys sprints. Darion Heavens finished sixth with a time of 12:42 in the 100 meter dash and backed it up with a sixth in the 200, crossing the line ahead of Centralia’s Mason Metcalf.

MMA’s Victor Patino took seventh in shot put, just ahead of Community’s Aaron Carter.

On the boys side, Dylan Hoyt of Community ran fifth in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs, continuing his consistent string in distance events.

Meanwhile Paris threatened in the 800, with Drew Williams taking second and Brock Miller third behind winner Kabott Harlan of Monroe City.

Paris’ Reese Barton cleared 5’10.75 in high jump for third. Miller also claimed bronze in pole vault. His launch of 10’02 narrowly beat out Centralia’s Jesse Shannon for the final podium spot.

Community’s Clayton Brandt finished eight in javelin.

In the girls events, Meyer broke the bar after 4’07 a fraction short of her best efforts yet still within range of breaking her 4’09 mark. It was enough for fourth in high jump. Meyer also placed in the top ten in triple jump, landing ninth, one place behind Centralia’s Gretchen Marriott.

The Trojans’ Brianna Beamer ran a competitive 800 time of 2:42.88 – a fourth place that was within reach of winner Emmalee Williams of Monroe City.

Emmi Johnson of Community took seventh in javelin. Alyssa Beamer edged into the top ten in the 1,600.

Paris’ Destiney Kelly ran fourth in the 200 dash, just a tick off the lead with a time of 29.83. She topped Centralia’s Mae;lea Parrish in that event, but the outcome was reversed in the 100, where Parrish grabbed the third podium spot and Kelly came in ninth.

The Centralia girls were often near the top. Olivia Adams crossed seventh in the 400 dash. Marriott placed fifth in the 3,200. Katie Carrico finished ninth in the 100 meter hurdles and seventh in the 300 hurdles.

In each case she edged Community’s Victoria DiSalvo.

Marriott was eighth in the triple jump, besting Meyer by one position. Annaka Hombs had a ninth place toss in discus.
