Darren Smiley, owner of Gallaher Insurance Group in Mexico, was recently sworn in as 2021-2022 president of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents. Smiley took the oath of office during the annual Missouri Agents Connection Summit, recently held at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Smiley has over 30 years experience working in the insurance industry, having been an agent at mid-Missouri agencies throughout his career.
Before being installed as MAIA president, Smiley served on the association’s executive committee, first as secretary-treasurer, then vice-president and eventually president-elect. Prior to serving as an officer of the association, Smiley represented Region 2 on the MAIA board of directors.
He has also served on the association’s Government and Industry Relations Committee, and is a current member of the MAC Summit Planning Committee.
In addition to working as a full-time insurance agent, Smiley is the current president of the Mexico Rotary Club and is a past board member of numerous civic organizations, including Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, Mexico Jaycees, Miss Missouri Scholarship Pageant and the Mexico Park Board.
Smiley and his wife Kristine, who is also active in the insurance industry, have three children, and make their home in Mexico.
Gallaher Insurance Group was first established in 1975 and has approximately 30 associates and staff involved with the agency. The full-service agency’s home office is in Mexico and has branches in Columbia, St. Louis, Montgomery City, and Troy.

Founded in 1899, the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents is the oldest and largest association of independent agents in Missouri, representing some 4,000 independent agents and brokers.
