Steven William Bockting

Steven William Bockting passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday morning April 11, 2022 at Hermann District Area Hospital.

Steve was born in Morrison, on Oct. 23, 1948.  The son of the late William C. and Eveline C. (Layne) Bockting.  

He was the husband of Donna (Schweerkotting) Bockting.  They were united in marriage on August 26, 1972 at Assumption Church, Morrison. 

Steve was a member of St. George Parish, St. George Cemetery Committee, Hermann, Missouri, Mississippi Valley Equipment Association board from 1999-2005 serving as president in 2004, Frene Valley Investment Club, Ham Breakfast Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1328.  

Steve started working at a young age for Wolf Brothers Cattle Farm and continued until he graduated from High School in 1967.  He then started working at Bockting Farm Equipment in Morrison.  In the early 1980s, he drove for Beauford Transfer Trucking Co. and Hines Implement part time.  In 1986 Steve and his father-in-law, Lyonel Schweerkotting purchased a John Deere Dealership becoming L & S Equipment in Hermann, which he co-owned and operated until 2010.  

Farming was a passion of his, he loved to be busy working on equipment and especially putting up hay.  He enjoyed going on fishing trips with friends and family. He loved traveling with friends and especially his family.  You could often see Steve attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Every year around Steve’s birthday, he looked forward to having a family/friends hayride at his home.  

Steve is survived by his wife Donna of almost 50 years, son, Todd Bockting Hermann, two daughters, Tricia Rohlfing of Washington, Mo. and Tara Englert and husband Brian of Hermann, five grandchildren, Joshua, Kyle and Trey Rohlfing and Sydney and Beau Englert.  A brother Allen Bockting of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., a brother David Bocking of New Haven, a sister Nancy Dillahunt of Pershing, a sister Janet Bartok of Sedalia, and a brother Bob Schowengerdt of Morrison.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Darrell Bockting and William Bockting and a sister Ruth Ann Rudroff.   

Visitation was Tuesday at Toedtmann and Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.

A funeral mass was held Wednesday at St. George Church, Hermann.

Burial was at St. George Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be given to Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer, St. George Parish or St. George School.  ℅ Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
