The Bulldogs were rude guests at Boonville on Wednesday, trouncing the Pirates 9-0.

Randy Hernandez teamed with Brendan McKeown again and the pairing paid off, 8-3. Haden Frazier and Ryan Pemberton cruised 8-1 and Carter McIntosh with Bryson Stuehmer toughed out a 8-4 win to seal the doubles round.

McKeown faced the stiffest opposition in singles but prevailed 8-4. Hernandez pulled away with an 8-3 win. Pemberton and Steuhmer each dropped just two games and McIntosh rolled 8-1.

Frazier conceded nothing in an 8-0 dusting.

Only one of the JV doubles teams gave up games. Andrew Pemberton and Nathan Bull edged out a narrow 6-4 victory. For Dominic McKeown and Andrew Stephens, Matthew Huemann and Declan Gleeson and Gleeson again with Zeven Ruiz it was a day of shutouts.

Ruiz – or “Z-Man” – played a JV singles set and won 6-3.

The win bumped the Bulldogs to 8-5 on the year. They hosted Missouri Military Academy on Monday.

Lower ranks step up for MMA

With two regulars out of action, Nathan Dempsey and Bradford Wright stepped up for the Colonels and Marco Tavarez returned to the lineup as Missouri Military Academy knocked off Hannibal 7-2.

Dempsey dropped his singles appearance, but teamed with Samuel Way for a tight 9-7 doubles win. Wright and Tavarez battled in doubles, but were edged out 9-7. Wright and Hannibals’ Alaric Mefford – part of the doubles action – put on another epic fight in singles, with Wright pulling out a 6-5 win that needed a tiebreaker to decide the outcome.

Tavarez had an easier time, concluding his singles match up 6-2.

As has usually been the case, the Way brothers brushed off their opponents. Isaac blanked Caden Cooke 8-0. Simon claimed an 8-3 victory and Samuel strolled 8-1.
