The Super 7: Mexico football leader starts the process

The Mexico Ledger begins the first of two-profile series with today’s Super 7 where we ask various persons in Audrain County seven questions that tell us more about an individual.

We will also begin personality profiles in the next week as well.

This series begins with Anthony Shivers, a top athlete and scholar at Mexico High School

You are known for a high GPA. How do you manage to keep it with all of your other obligations? What’s your secret and what do you do besides school and athletics?

“Managing a high GPA is not an easy task, and how I manage to keep a steady GPA even with all my other obligations is to stay focused and do the ‘grimy’ work - Meaning doing some assignments at home or just being on top of my work even when I truly don’t feel like it. Other than sports and school I work, attend church, and mentor from time to time.”

What other athletics do you play, which is your favorite and why?

“Other than football, I participate in basketball and running track. Out of the three, my favorite ones are between football and track. They are just the two sports that I have had a constant love for.”

When you aren’t doing sports or school, what do you do for fun? Why?

“When not caught up in school and sports, I either work or just go to the gym and play pick-up games of basketball along with a small workout.”

What is the best book you’ve ever read and why?

“The best book I can recall reading was a book my sister gifted me called Dear Martin. I was intrigued by the story because of the interests I and the main character shared and his encounters with life.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now and why?

“In 10 years, I can see myself doing one of two things, either pursuing my athletic career and being a professional athlete or trainer or following the path of my intended major of finance and working at a bank or even a higher level. Always having a love for sports being younger, fuels me to want to make my younger self proud and be able to potentially make millions somewhere, with finance being my backup plan.”

Who has been the greatest positive influence in your life and why?

“My greatest positive influence would have to be my parents, family, and God. With the main person being my cousin Jaeon Nunnelly. He always took me to get extra work and even got me the shoes I needed. Always let me know ways of improved and guided me.”

If you could fix one issues that challenges the majority of the world population, what would that issue be, what is your solution?

“An issue that challenges a majority of the population would be racism. A solution to the problem of racism would be to examine the bias of skin color and examine where they may have originated, maybe deception as a kid or just harsh experiences. Lastly, validate feelings or those who contrast you, especially in skin color, considerations shouldn’t be invalid because of skin color.”
