Thelma Dean Robinett

Posted

On Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, God called home his angel, Thelma Dean Robinett, better known to all as Grandma Dean. She passed peacefully in Mexico, surrounded by loved ones.

Dean was born to George Thomas Moore and Victoria Forrine Stotler on Nov. 20, 1935, in Bellflower. Along with her siblings, she enjoyed helping on the farm, working in the fields, swimming, and being ornery. She married Edward Lee Robinett in Auxvasse on Dec. 21, 1954. They were blessed with five children, Carolyn (Susie), Betty, Sam, Danny and Carl. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2005.

Grandma Dean was a force to be reckoned with and left a lasting impression on all that knew her. To know her, was to love her. Through her many years of daycare service - both in her home (Dean’s Daycare) and at the local YMCA, she touched the lives of many families. It was not uncommon to hear a small voice yelling “Grandma Dean” whenever she was in public, or hear a honking car as they passed her house. There is no way to fully realize the breadth of impact she had on those around her, but it is easy to see in all that have known and loved her.

Grandma Dean loved sitting on her porch listening to old country music and singing along. Her eyes glowed when she was visited by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she never missed the opportunity to sing “You Are My Sunshine” or crawl onto the floor to play with the little ones. Anytime she had visitors or attended a family event, you could guarantee she would have oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and Wahoo ready.

Through her love she also had a stubborn side. She could often be seen out in the yard push-mowing, picking up sticks, tending to her flowers, or feeding the birds. She was never idle, it didn’t matter if it was hot, cold, hell or high water - she was doing what she wanted to do.

Grandma Dean was the sunshine that shone when the skies were gray. She was loved and her legacy lives on through all those whose lives she touched and passed on through her family. She is survived by her brother, Ronnie Moore; sister, Vicki Johston; five children, Carolyn (Robert) Steidinger, of Auxvasse, Betty (Doug) Gotcher, of Mexico, Sam (Rhonda) Robinett, of Auxvasse, Daniel (Marie) Robinett, of Auxvasse, and Carl (Michelle) Robinett, of Mexico; 10 grandchildren, Melissa (Kendal) Burwell, Megan (Logan) Sheets, Mayson Gotcher, Mallory Gotcher, Nathan (Emily) Robinett, Michael (Stephanie) Robinett, Devin (Olivia) Robinett, John (Kate) Shaw, Morgan Robinett and Logan Robinett; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Larue Nichols, Linda Riney, and Joyce Sudbrock; granddaughter, Michelle Robinett; and great-grandson, Lucas Burwell.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 29, at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico. Pickering Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
