Neither Mexico and Centralia won the championship in Class 3 District 7, but several players for each team helped the schools contend.
On Thursday, Mexico senior outside hitter Jessica Stephens, and Centralia junior outside hitter Morgan Ross and Centralia junior libero Katie Carrico were named to the all-district first team. Earning spots on the second team were Mexico senior libero Tessa Haefling and Mexico senior setter Ally Wilson, and Centralia junior setter Lexi Cook and Centralia junior outside hitter Harper Forshee.
Mexico was unable to move past Bowling Green in a five-set quarterfinals match but set a new season-high of 141 digs — all six seniors each had at least 10 digs. Haefling led with her 31 digs followed by Stephens, who had a double-double of 28 digs and 21 kills, and Wilson had a double-double of 14 digs and 21 assists.
Centralia eliminated Bowling Green in four sets in the semifinals thanks to a school record 34 assists from Cook and a match-high 19 kills by Ross. Ross and Forshee each had a team-high seven kills in the Lady Panthers’ season-ending loss in the championship match to Hallsville in four sets. Cook led the team in assists again, and Carrico once again had the most digs in the losing effort.
On Friday, it was announced that Stephens made the North Central Missouri Conference team for the third straight year and earned her second consecutive first team selection. Wilson was named as a NCMC honorable mention.
