TRACK ROUNDUP: Centralia doubles up on team conference titles in Macon

What has been the case all season was the case on Monday in Macon.

The Centralia girls and boys each won the Clarence Cannon Conference meet to take home conference titles, winning in the standings with 194 points (Clark County second with 98) and 175 points (South Shelby second with 112), respectively. The Lady Panthers won 10 individual CCC titles while the boys finished with seven, combining for a score of 369 points to outpace second-place Palmyra’s 199 points.

Among the multiple champions for the Centralia girls were Shelby Lewis in the 200, 400 and the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, Jozelynn Bostick in the 800, 1600, 3200 and the 4x800 relay, Harper Sontheimer in the 100 hurdles and the 4x200 and 4x400 relays, Autumn Hawkins in the long jump and the 4x200 relay, and Annie Robinson in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. The winning teams for the relays included the 4x200 quartet of Sontheimer, Hawkins, Lewis and Kaelyn Walters, the 4x400 with Sontheimer, Lewis, Robinson and Olivia Adams, and the 4x800 team of Bostick, Robinson, Kenedee Moss and Becca Erisman. 

Lewis set a school record in the 200 with a time of 26.29 and a CCC meet record in the 400 with a time of 59.61, Harper Forshee broke the school record in the javelin for the second time this year with a third-place throw of 36.95 meters, and Bostick was named the female conference athlete of the year.

The multi-time conference champions for the Centralia boys included Rohan Holiman in the 800 and 4x800 relay, JR Lesher in the 800, 3200 and 4x800 relay, Cayden Dunn in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and 4x200 relay, and Logan Rosenfelder in the triple jump and the 4x200 relay. The winning relay teams were the 4x200 quartet of Rosenfelder, Dunn, Jesse Caballero and Jacob Beard, and the 4x800 four of Holiman, Lesher, Landon Moss and Dryst Bostick.

Lesher set a CCC meet record in the 3200 with a time of 10:18.87.

Centralia had many girls earn all-conference honors by finishing in the top three in individual events and top two in relay events like Walters’ second-place in the 100, Moss’ second-place in the 1600 and third-place in the 800, Rylee Palmer’s third-place in the 3200, Erisman’s second-place in the 300 hurdles and third-place in the long jump, Claire Brinkman’s second-place in the high jump, Ellie Berendzen’s second-place in the discus, Forshee’s third-place in the javelin, and the second-place 4x200 relay team of Adams, Hawkins, Walters and Erisman.

The all-conference Centralia boys included Moss’ third-place in the 800, Lesher’s second-place in the 1600, Bostick’s third-place in the 3200 and third-place in the javelin, Caballero’s second-place in the high jump, Rosenfelder’s second-place in the long jump, Beard’s third-place in the pole vault, Evan Brumback’s second-place in the javelin, and Payton Mabrey’s second-place in the shot put.

Schmauch runs to all-conference honor for North Callaway, Thunderbirds, Van-Far earn medals at EMO meet in Wright City

The competition was stiff on Tuesday, but Pressley Schmauch still impressed.

The North Callaway junior earned all-conference honors by finishing second in the 3200 at the Eastern Missouri Conference meet in Wright City. The Thunderbirds and Ladybirds collected medals in events while Van-Far also made the podium. The North Callaway girls and boys finished seventh and sixth, respectively, while Van-Far girls and boys were 11th and 10th behind winners Montgomery County and Bowling Green.

Schmauch finished in the top six in the 1600 to medal with a third-place time, Cora Tripp was a medalist after taking third in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles, Grace Rasmussen was sixth in the 800, Lia Bondurant was third in the high jump, Jalyn Leible was sixth in the long jump and triple jump, Ainsley Marx was fifth in the pole vault, Kymorie Myers threw to third in the discus, Faith Cash took fourth in the javelin, and Ellie Bedsworth in the shot put.

Caleb Rohrbach had the best finish for the North Callaway boys with a third-place medal in the shot put and also medaled by finishing sixth in the discus. Also earning medals were Gavin Rasmussen’s fourth in the 300 hurdles, Brendan Reinhard’s fourth in the high jump, Carson Safranski’s fifth in the pole vault, Hunter Fansler’s fifth in the discus, and Isiah Craighead’s fifth in the javelin.

Van-Far’s best finish in the meet was a third-place time run by the girls 4x800 relay team of Brooke-lynn Forman, Trinity Skwirtz, Abbie Shelton and Erin Childs. Forman also medaled individually in the 800 by finishing fifth, and Mara Jensen was fourth in the shot put.

For the boys, Gaven Gaston was the Indians’ lone medalist after finishing sixth in the 200.

Tullius runs to two titles for Paris at conference meet

Alexandra Tullius was the highlight for Paris at the Lewis and Clark Conference meet on Monday.

Tullius won the 1600 and 3200 races to win conference titles in Salisbury and was the highest finishing Lady Coyote. Drew Williams had the best finish for the Paris boys as he was the conference champion in the 800.

The Paris girls to earn all-conference honors by finishing in the top three of events included Mairyn Kinnaman’s third-place 3200 and Sophia Crusha’s third-place in the 300 hurdles.

The all-conference Paris boys were Landen Chapman’s third-place in the 3200, Colton Kendrick’s third-place in the pole vault, the 4x800 relay finished second, and the 4x400 relay finished third. 

The boys finished fifth out of nine schools with 69 point,which was behind Harrisburg’s winning 170.5 points. The girls were seventh out of nine schools with 50 points, which trailed Harrisburg’s winning 154 points.

Mexico boys win Montgomery County middle school meet

Mexico’s middle school track athletes had a good Monday in Montgomery City.

The Bulldogs won the Montgomery County Middle School Invite after finishing with 143 points to finish ahead of schools such as Van-Far with a sixth-most 68 points and Community R-6 with an 11th-most 20 points. The Mexico girls finished ahead of Van-Far and Community with an 11th place 24 points while Community had 12 points for 12th and Van-Far had 10 points for 13th.

The Mexico boys swept the relays as part of nine event victories as Christian Bass won the 400, Luke Pezley won the 800, James Matthews won the long jump and triple jump and Luke Fowler won the pole vault. Winning relay teams included the 4x100 team of Carter Ford, Titus Grubb. Jiles Williams and Bass; the 4x200 team of Houston Fowler, David Richard, Williams and Aiden Wilson; the 4x400 team of Houston Fowler, Grubb, Matthews and Bass; and the 4x800 team of Carter Jackson, Pezley, Israel Hernandez-Jarquin and Wilson.

Kael Smith was the runner-up in the discus, and Ford was third in the shot put.

For the Mexico girls, Kaili Cox owned the team’s best finish with a runner-up 800 time.

Community’s best finishers was Rett Curtis’ top shot put throw to become the meet champion for the boys, and Myla Carroll taking third in the girls shot put. 

Van-Far’s had two meet champions on the boys side as Garrett Hopke won the 1600 and Chase Wright-McAfee won the discus. Hopke was the runner-up in the 800, and Khloe Wallace had the Lady Indians’ best finish with a fourth-place in the 800.
