Through the wind, injuries and mistakes on Friday, Mexico track and field earned several all-conference athletes.

The Bulldogs had two North Central Missouri Conference champions in the meet hosted at Marshall as Tyler Grimes won the boys 800 and Thomas Peuster won the 3200.

Also earning all-conference honors were second-place finishers Maggie Ramsey in the girls 3200, Dante Kelley in the boys triple jump with a personal-best 1.7 meters, the girls 4x800 relay team of Viviana Benjamin, Sidney Turlington, Ramsey and Emma Seibert, the boys 4x100 team of Grimes, Taye Potter, Alex Rowan and Anthony Shivers, the boys 4x400 team of Grimes, Davontae Frame, Shivers and Charlie Fisher, and the boys 4x800 team of Grimes, Thomas Peuster, Andrew Peuster and Mekhi Owens. Shivers finished third in the boys 100 to earn all-NCMC honors in that race.

Head coach Bucky Green said the team felt “snakebit” as Seibert almost finished third for all-conference in the girls 300 hurdles only to trip on the last hurdle to finish fifth. Morgan Grubb had to be pulled out of boys relay events because of recurring injuries. Rowan, though he finished fourth in the boys 200, ran to a personal-best time of 22.63.

DiSalvo, other Community R-6 athletes going to sectionals

Victoria DiSalvo qualified for sectionals in several events on Saturday.

Powell, Canonico win district titles for MMA, Van-Far’s Gibson hurdling to sectionals

Bryson Powell took a big first step in his quest to return to the state meet.

Powell won the 1600 district title for Missouri Military Academy on Saturday at the Class 2 District 3 meet at Putnam County in Unionville, advancing in the event in which he competed at state last year, and will compete in the 800 after finishing second. Gabe Canonico also won a MMA district title after winning the 300 hurdles, while also advancing to sectionals this Saturday at South Shelby in Shelbina with a second-place in the 110 hurdles.

Kellan Mugisha will also compete in sectionals for the Colonels after taking fourth in the 1600.

Ky-Mani Erskine just missed sectionals after finishing fifth in the high jump.

On Van-Far’s side,  Gage Gibson was the only Van-Far athlete to make it to sectionals after finishing second in the 300 hurdles. Gibson was close to advancing in the long jump too with a sixth-place mark. For the Lady Indians, nobody advanced, but Brooke-lynn Forman and Hailey Lowry each had the highest finish at seventh place in the 800 and javelin, respectively.
