For the first time since 2001 and the second time in program history, Community R-6 baseball is heading to the state Final Four after defeating Sacred Heart 9-4 on Wednesday at home in the Class 1 state quarterfinals. The Trojans (19-5) advance to play South Nodaway/Jefferson (Conception) (19-2) at 1 p.m. Monday at Sky Bacon Stadium in Ozark.

Gavin Allen and Ayden Meranda each went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. Mason Rohan, Shane Woodson and Eli Johnson each laid down successful bunts to move the offense along. Mason Carroll struck out 10 and allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks in seven innings.

"The mutual respect of ' No I want to do it for you. No I want to do it for you.' That's why we're here," head coach Joel Krato said. "When I give them a bunt sign, it's 'I can't let my teammates down.' We're talented, but there's a lot of teams that are talented.  But it's those things that separate us."
