Keith Ranson and Jokiah Sewell tooks first in their weight class as Mexico’s wrestlers took on a talented field at the Steve Leslie Invitational in Pleasant Hill.
As a team, the Bulldogs finished seventh out of 16 teams participating in the season opening meet near Kansas City.
Wrestling at 132 pounds, Ransom won three by fall and another by forfeit before taking on Pleasant Hill’s Ethan Dayringer in the title bout. Ransom dominated 15-0, claiming the crown by technical fall at 2:37. In the 170 class, Sewell downed two by fall. He finished another by technical fall at 5:16 up 22-7. A 10-5 decision over St. James’ Zachary Achterberg put him in the final round, where he beat Jaden Ballinger of Kirksville by fall at 1:29.
Mexico’s Ricardo Juarez claimed second in the 120 weight class, winning four consecutive matches – two by fall – before falling to Lane Snyder of Pleasant Hill. In 220, Deacon Haag captured his first two and then lost. He rebounded, however, and moved into the final round where he topped Troy Lewis from St. James.
That meant third for Haag. Also wrapping up the tournament with bronze was Dylan Mosley. The 138 pounder went into the finale at 2-2 on the weekend and claimed a tight 6-5 decision over Ethan Dighero of Nevada.
Cameron Beasley was 1-4 in the 152 class. Emille Scanavino also finished 1-4 at 285. Bryan Garza wrestled at 145 and was 0-5.
