Two Lady Bulldogs all-conference on home court

In the final year of the North Central Missouri Conference, Mexico girls tennis made the most of it on Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted the conference tournament at Fairgrounds Netplex in Mexico. Marali Herrera-Amaya finished second No. 3 singles to earn her second all-NCMC honor, and Yolitza Rodriguez-Rios finished fourth at No. 2 singles to be all-NCMC. Herrera-Amaya won her first two matches 8-0 and 8-3 over Fulton and Kirksville, respectively, before losing 8-4 to Hannibal. Rodriguez-Rios won her first match 9-7 against Kirksville and then lost 8-2 to Marshall and 6-2 to Hannibal.

Bailey Christianson was fourth at No. 4 singles with a 8-0 win over Marshall, Lea Hernandez-Sanchez was fifth at No. 1 singles with a 6-2 win over Fulton, Kayden Higbee was fifth at No. 5 singles with a 6-3 win over Fulton and Jackie Medina-Lucas was fifth at No. 6 singles with 6-0 win over Fulton.

In doubles, Elise Galloway and Abbey Christianson finished third in No. 1 doubles after 8-2 and 7-5 wins over Fulton and Moberly, respectively, but a 8-3 loss to Marshall. Betsy Ventura-Rios and Sherlin Rodriguez-Rios were fifth in No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 win over Fulton and Lizabeth Rodriguez-Rios & Jalissa Hernandez was fifth at No. 3 doubles.

Mexico finished fifth out of six schools with 25 team points while Hannibal finished first with 45 points.

Individual district play for Class 1 District 4 begins on Friday at Holt, and Mexico (2-9) will host its first-round district dual with Fulton (0-10) on Monday.
