Mexico native Tyronn Lue was tagged as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers.
The news broke on Thursday, when ESPN reported that Lue and the Clippers reached a five year deal. He replaces Doc Rivers, who held the clipboard for the past seven seasons.
Lue directed the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first NBA title in 2016 and took the Los Angeles Lakers to four finals – twice as a player, winning championships on both occasions, and twice as head coach, losing each time to Golden State. Lue played college ball for the University of Nebraska and was selected in the first round of the 1998 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets.
Born in 1977, Lue grew up in Mexico and often returns to the town. He is known for putting on community events. Some locals say his Fourth of July fireworks show is the best in the region.
Lue graduated from Raytown High School.
