A Vandalia man died in a two-vehicle accident Friday, Feb. 18 on U.S. 54, .5 miles east of Audrain County Road 448 near Laddonia.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when Kevin E. Murray, 34, of Vandalia, lost control of his eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Blazer and crossed over the centerline. The Blazer struck the front of the westbound 2016 Freightliner, driven by Bashir J. Isse, 32, of Columbus Ohio.
Murray was pronounced dead at the scene. It is Troop F’s fourth fatality for the month of February and the 15th for 2022.
According to the report, Isse was wearing his seatbelt; it isn’t known if Murray was. Time of the accident was 12:47 p.m. Traffic was diverted around the accident site for hours as emergency personnel worked.
Driving conditions Thursday and Friday proved challenging as the area received significant snow, sleet and ice, causing hazardous roads.
Murray was taken to Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico. Isse sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
