Vincent Fabian Fuemmeler, Sr., 98, of Mexico, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, with family by his side.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Fr. Dylan Schrader officiating. All attendees are required to wear masks at St. Brendan Catholic Church. The mass will also be live-streamed through St. Brendan’s Facebook page. A private graveside service will follow.
Vince was born on March 14, 1922, in Aholt, to Frank and Flora Fuemmeler. He married Rose Smith on June 10, 1966. Rose survives at their home in Mexico.
After working at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Vince joined the United States Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific in World War II. After his service, Vince settled in Mexico and purchased Mexico Heating Company. He founded Mexico Plastics in the early 1960s and acquired Continental Bag Company in 1970. A constant innovator and inventor, he acquired several patents during his lifetime.
Vince was active in the Mexico community, taking part in several organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and Knight of Columbus.
He and Rose loved to travel, golf, and play bridge.
In addition to Rose, he is survived by eleven children, Sheila (Jim) Shipman, Ron (Gennie), Karen Jacobi, Betty (Orv) Salmon, Linda (Ken) Mace, Carl (Debbie), Rick (Carleen), Donna (Regan) Fuhrer, Tammy (Joe) Monk, Randy (Connie), Vince (Sundy), along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. Vince is also survived by two brothers, Leon (Marie), and Ray (Sharell), and two sisters, Aileen (Tony) Thies, Bernice (Lawrence) Henke. He was preceded in death by siblings, Edna (Lloyd) Nichols, Clarence (Virlea), Irv (Mildred), Eugene (Mary Athlyn), Maurice (Verlee), Mel (Bobbi).
