The facility has been purchased by a small group of investors and the new name of the medical center will be called Ziva Medical. Amanda Shurtz is the company’s new chief executive officer (CEO) and she recently met with the Ledger to share some details.

Shurtz comes to Mexico via Milwaukee, WI, and has an extensive background in the medical and health care business fields that includes more than 30 years of service. Shurtz began her career in southern Illinois as a nurse. She has a Master’s in nursing and business.

Shurtz said the name “Ziva” has a special meaning to the new owners, who have not yet revealed themselves publicly. According to Hebrew the word Ziva means, “radiance or light of God.”

Although the company is new this is not the only endeavor into the medical world for Ziva. The company has also purchased the hospital in Fulton and plans to reopen it according to Shurtz. There are three investors and although they have not publicly released any information about themselves, Shurtz said they’ve been meeting with local business owners and leaders since February when the hospital was purchased.

Shurtz said the hospital currently has five full time employees including Pat Klingler, who is serving as the company’s chief people officer. Shurtz said some former employees have reached out and that some are under contract currently doing work in preparation for an opening.

In a statement released to the Ledger Ziva said that when it obtained possession of the hospital the problems to overcome were a little bit more than what was expected. Shurtz gave an example of how water pipes were left unprotected over the winter and burst. Nevertheless, the statement, which was authored by one of the investors, says they are committed to the long term success of the hospital.

“Zival Medical is here and we are committed to the cause,” the statement reads. “Not merely because it’s good business but because it’s the right thing to do.”

Shurtz said more information about the ownership group and what the company has planned will be released in the coming months. Stay tuned.
