The Audrain County Health Department did not have to look far to find their new boss. Healthcare veteran and long time Mexico resident Craig Brace was named as the new Administrator and CEO of the organization by the ACHD Board of Health.
The announcement was made on Monday.
Brace brings over 37 years of healthcare executive leadership experience to ACHD. Most recently he served as Divisional Director of Marketing for Hospital Sisters Health System Medical Group, a system of over 600 physicians and medical providers with 100 locations in central and southern Illinois. Brace’s healthcare experience spans across serving in leadership positions with healthcare agencies, medical groups and hospitals.
His past work includes serving as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Audrain Medical Center from 1990 to 2002.
“Craig is an exceptional leader,” said ACHD board chairperson Dr. Kathleen Weaver. “His track record in healthcare has been extraordinary.”
Brace takes over the post left vacant when Dr. Sandra Hewlett resigned as administrator in early October. The board began the search to fill the position immediately.
“I’m excited to lead this wonderful team of dedicated colleagues, and look forward to working with the ACHD Board of Health,” Brace observed. “We have a great team of individuals, a bold vision for the future and a winning strategy that has enabled ACHD to have a rich history of promoting and protecting the health of the residents of Audrain County.”
Weaver explains that the board chose Brace from a field of candidates because of his collaborative leadership style and track record of putting together strong teams of professionals dedicated to public health. ACHD fills several roles, including education, environmental safety, and prevention.
“These core services are essential for solving the increasingly complex opportunities facing public health organizations everywhere,” she pointed out.
Brace holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwest Baptist University with a concentration in health promotion and wellness. He is board certified in healthcare management by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and is a Fellow of ACHE. Brace grew up in Wellsville. He has lived in Mexico with his wife, Lois, for the past 30 years. They have four adult children.
