The Community R-6 girls dug out of an early hole to push the No. 1 seed to its limit.
The Lady Trojans trailed New Franklin Tournament No. 1 seed Fayette (10-2) by as much as 15 points, tied the game to send it into overtime and then lost 66-56. Peyton Beamer hit the game-tying bucket off a steal with eight seconds left to knot the score at 51 and complete the Community 15-4 effort in the fourth quarter.
"I knew we had a shot to knock them off," head coach Bob Currtis said. "We are just digging to big of a hole sometimes with bad offensive possessions, and it makes our defense work so hard to stay in games. We are close as we have won five of our last seven games with the two losses being a double-overtime loss to Sturgeon and this overtime loss to Fayette."
Kylie Brooks led the Lady Trojans (7-5) with 13 points, Peyton Beamer had 12 points, Alyssa Beamer had 11 points, and Brooklynn Glasgow and Aaliyah Welch each finished with eight points.
