Bernard L. “Barney” Frye

Bernard L. “Barney” Frye, 88, of Mexico, died on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.

Bernard L. Frye was born on Oct. 10, 1932 in Wisconsin to Delbert Frye and Madeline Jones Frye. He graduated from LaFarge High School and then attended college at Normal School in Wisconsin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.

Barney married Genevieve Ethel Bailke on March 10, 1951 in the state of Wisconsin. They were married over 49 wonderful years when she preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2001.

Mr. Frye was also very proud of his son, Darrell, and he preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2007 at the age of 48. Mr. Frye was very proud of his military service. He was a custodian at the Montgomery City Elementary School for years and later worked for Alco as a custodian. He had his own tax service, Barney’s Tax Service, and always enjoyed visiting with all his family and many friends.

Mr. Frye is survived by his sister, Betty Tuttle of Wisconsin; by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Frye was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Frye and Madeline Jones Frye; wife, Genevieve Ethel Bailke Frye; and his son, Darrell Frye.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, north of Montgomery City.
