Calvin Cleve Kemp, 99, of Wellsville, passed away at 12:58 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2021, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Wellsville. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Wellsville Cemetery. Myers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Calvin was born in Mexico on Dec. 10, 1921, he was the son of John and Bessie (Green) Kemp. On June 5, 1951, in Mexico, he married Ethel C. Cheatum. Mrs. Kemp preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1999.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Kemp worked for many years at the Wellsville Firebrick Plant. After retiring from the brick plant, he cleaned the offices of the Wellsville Bank and Dr. Donald Shoup’s offices. He retired in 1982.

Calvin was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He had served as a deacon and was the church organist for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Kemp, of Tacoma, Wash., Sam Kemp, of Wellsville, and Richard Kemp, of St. Louis; one daughter, Betty Brown (David), of Bloomington, Ill.; and a host of grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Janice Kemp, Brenda Kemp, and Doris Simms; seven brothers, Elwood, John, Clyde, Paul, Llewellyn, Leo, and Jewel Kemp; and five sisters, Elva Moore, Gwonderlyn Kemp, Roseline Williams, Lorraine Kemp, and Zola Johnson.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Community Loving Care Hospice and healthcare workers, Rita, Kelly, Laura, Michelle, Tina, and his granddaughters Ebonie and Eliah. (?)

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
