Filing has closed for both the Mexico Public Schools Board of Education (BOE) and the Mexico City Council with two late additions.
Cameron R. Bessolo filed to run for Mexico City Council on Tuesday, Dec. 26, the last day of filing. That brings the total number of candidates to four barring any write-in campaigns.
There are two seats up for election on the council and both incumbents, Vicki Briggs and Chris Miller, have both filed for re-election. Laine Chedwick had previously filed.
Current Mexico Councilman Chris Williams was a late addition to the Mexico Public Schools BOE race with a filing on Tuesday. There are three seats up for election on the BOE with two of the seats for three-year terms and one two-year term. Williams filed for a three-year term which means there will be a race with three people vying for two seats. The two seats are currently held by BOE President Keith Louder and Treasurer Michelle Stephens.
Stephens has filed for election which would be her first. She was appointed to the board this past summer to serve the remaining time of the term that expires in April for that seat. Stephens was in the 2023 race for a board seat. Jennifer Gore, who also ran in 2023, has also filed to run for a three-year term.
The third seat up for election is currently held by Lennette Brown who was appointed to fill the seat that was vacated by former BOE President Todd Yager until the next election. That seat is for a two-year term to fill the remaining balance of Yager’s original three-year term. Brown is the only person who filed for the two-year term.
