The Mexico Farmers Market is a growing market and that is, in no small part, due to the efforts of board president Sonny Orth and his wife, Mary. Sonny and Mary are two of the longest term members of the market and it all started when a neighbor, who happened to be the board president and market manager in 2011. Sonny has faithfully served as our board president for several years and guided us through many transitions.
Most people know that S&M Produce is best known for their tomatoes. But they also sell a wide variety of produce that is grown for the flavor content. And, when you buy from S&M Produce, you will know where your food is coming from and how it is raised; with love, care, pride, and organic practices. Mary bakes for many hours each week to bring you many tasty treats and delicious breads and pies. Sonny and Mary believe that the value of the Market is that It enables us to provide and serve the community with healthy and wholesome food. And the Market members are much like a family.
When asked before the market started what some of their favorite purchases are on Saturday mornings, Sonny an Mary had quite a list: Beef from Mexico Premium Meats, freeze-dried candies and veggies by Moore than Sweet, tee shirts from ShellDee’s Custom Tee’s n Crafts, Sea Salt Soap & a variety of deodorants at Jordan Essentials, lemon cookies at Eckler Farms, earrings by Oh Snap, all the seasonings by Tastefully Simple, grease and grime soap at The Wright Homestead - it takes off the tomato green residue, which is extremely hard to remove.
