Mary Catherine “Kay” Dubbert, 69, of Martinsburg, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31 from 4-7 pm at Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, with Memorial Services at 7 pm with Fr Bill Debo officiating.

Private entombment will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Kay was born on September 18, 1954 in Mexico, the daughter of Everett L. “Dutch” and Mary Saline (Bertels) Fennewald. On July 4, 1975 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg, she married William Dubbert.

Mrs. Dubbert attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Martinsburg and was a 1972 graduate of Community R-6 High School. After attending the University of Missouri for one year, she started at the DePaul School of Nursing in St. Louis, obtaining her Diploma in Nursing in 1975.

Kay worked as a Registered Nurse for one year at Audrain Medical Center and then began a career with the Audrain County Health Department that spanned almost 40 years which included being Director of Nurses and Associate Administrator from 1988-2014.   She was recently awarded the William "Bill" Johnson Advocate for Public Health Award for her accomplishments during this time.  She ended her career as the employee health nurse for St. Mary's Hospital Audrain in 2016.

Kay was known as "Momma Kay" to many people and was a dear friend to many more.  She loved to read and was never without a book or two.  Following her retirement, she began quilting with the St. Joseph's Quilting Group.  This was a hobby she really enjoyed much to the amazement of her children.  Kay's most favorite thing though, was to spend time with her granddaughter, Emma, whether it was playing games, taking her shopping or attending her dance recitals.

Kay was Vice-President of the Mexico-Audrain County Library Board. She also helped research and typed much of the 2017 Martinsburg history book, assisted with St. Joseph Alumni research and registration, did scrapbooking for the Martinsburg Community Betterment Group and was instrumental in putting together the yearly memorial service in Martinsburg.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Bill Dubbert of the home; her dear children, Jennifer “Jen” (Jess Pikul) Dubbert of Ballwin, Jared (Angie) Dubbert and their daughter, Emma, of Pleasant Hill, and Adam Dubbert of Martinsburg; one beloved sister, Susie (Fennewald) Deimeke of Martinsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Dutch and Mary Fennewald.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery, St. Joseph School and the Audrain County Health Department. All may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson Street, Mexico, MO 65265.
