Mexico girls soccer will be searching for its win after Friday's season-opening loss at home to Jefferson City, but it won't be searching for its first goal.
The Lady Bulldogs lost 6-1 to Jefferson City but avoided the shutout they sustained in both meetings with the Lady Jays last year and recorded the program's first goal against Jefferson City since 2009. Mexico's first goal of the season last year didn't happen until the fourth game near the end of March.
Claire Hudson scored for Mexico (0-1) in the first minute of the second half, cutting Jefferson City's lead in half at 2-1. Emily McMillian, after scoring a hat trick in last season's 6-0 season opener against Mexico in Jefferson City, recorded four goals and netted a hat trick five minutes after Hudson's goal to make it 4-1. Katie Mullen and Izzy Schmidt also had goals for the Lady Jays (1-0).
Freshman Kaili Cox made her varsity debut in goal due to the absence of Katie Crews. Cox made 12 saves as Jefferson City put together 27 shots.
Mexico's homestand to begin the season continues with a 5 p.m. Monday meeting at Chris Hotop Field against California and another home game at the same time the next night against Fatima.
