Lola F. Slater

Lola F. Slater, of Mexico, formerly of Auxvasse, passed away on Monday Jan. 17, 2022, in Mexico.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Pickering Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Lola was born in Murry, on Dec. 3, 1929, the daughter of Arthur and Beulah (Mauk) Pulis. On Oct. 15, 1951, in Hawaii, she married Stanley W. Slater, Jr. who preceded her in death on May 8, 2001.

Lola worked for many years as a lunch lady at both Auxvasse and Hatton Schools. When Stanley was living they enjoyed attending music festivals. She was a member of Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse. She was very active in her church and community. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Mona Leonard, and Shirley Owen (Robert), all of Mexico; two brothers, Wesley Pulis (Donna), and Earl Pulis (Winona), all of Centralia; two sisters, Joyce Schwartz, of Boonville, and Patsy Hunter, of Centralia; five grandchildren, Bradley Duncan, Charles Duncan, Austin Clark, and Jeremy Horton; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Elizabeth Durlin; one grandson, Damon Owen; and two sisters, Anna Lois Blair, and infant Marylon Hope Pulis.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Grand Prairie Baptist Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
