Nothing says I love you like making your spouse of 67 years a coffin, and that is exactly what 87-year-old Loren Biggers has done.
Over the years Loren has made instruments, including a dobro for Mexico musician turned Nashville star Jake Clayton. What is a dobro? A dobro is a type of acoustic guitar with steel resonating disks inside the body under the bridge.
He has made a sign for former Senator Kit Bond. He has made trophy cabinets for the Mexico Area Family YMCA and grandfather clocks for his sons and a niece. And his wife Lorna has taken pictures of all of this and saved it in a family album where she proudly describes her husbands fruits of labor. After working construction for 20 years, Loren's next project was to build a coffin for himself and Lorna.
"I always thought I wanted build coffins and wanted be buried in a mausoleum," said Biggers.
He also built a mausoleum at Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico.
"It was his idea, and I think it is great. I just hope the boys can lift them and carry it to the church for our service," said Lorna Biggers.
The caskets are made out of Walnut and it took Loren about three years to build. He got the dimensions out of a magazine in which he orders supplies from. One coffin is seven foot for Loren and the other is six foot which is for Lorna.
If you ever need any advice on starting a wood working project or fixing something then Loren Biggers is your man.
