The Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 1300 block of North Washington Monday at around 2 p.m. in response to a man with a reported gunshot wound.
Responding personnel found a 19-year-old man with what appeared to be a close-range gunshot wound to the leg. The victim stated he was from Independence and had been visiting Mexico for a few days. He told officials he was on his friends’ porch when an unknown male walked onto the porch, shot him in the leg and ran away. The victim couldn’t provide a description of the assailant.
Several neighbors heard the gunshot and saw the victim limping from the home, but Mexico Public Safety hasn’t found anyone who saw anyone fleeing the scene.
Audrain Ambulance District transported the victim to University Hospital where he was treated and released.
