MPSD searching for suspects

Posted

On Friday, March 22, at approximately 2:54 a.m., an alert resident reported suspicious activity in the south-central part of Mexico. Responding officers located and attempted to detain five to seven people dressed in dark clothing seen running in the area. The suspects escaped and a short time later, officers observed a white Toyota Camry leaving the area and exiting Mexico on Route FF. The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified and a deputy saw the Camry on Missouri Highway 22 between Mexico and Centralia. The Camry had been reported stolen from Columbia on March 17. A pursuit went into Boone County before the Camry was abandoned and the suspects fled on foot. The Centralia Police Department and Boone County Sheriff’s Office assisted as law enforcement attempted to locate the suspects. No one has been located as of this time.

The Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) has learned that at least five guns were stolen from at least three vehicles in Mexico. The investigation into the events is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact CRIMESTOPPERS at (800) 392-TIPS or (800) 392-8477 or Mexico Public Safety at (573) 473-5800 or (573) 581-2100. Information leading to an arrest could be eligible for a reward.
