The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT) Division of Highway Safety and Traffic is coordinating a statewide campaign to reduce speed on Missouri roadways and make them safer. The campaign is called, “Change Your Speed, Change The Ending.” The Mexico Public Safety Department (MPSD) will be participating by increasing traffic enforcement the weekend of Feb. 11 through Feb. 13, in an effort to slow drivers down.
According to MODOT, in 2020, 404 people were killed in Missouri traffic crashes that involved at least one driver speeding or driving too fast for conditions. Preliminary data indicates 365 people were killed in similar crashes in 2021.
