Pezold, Thunderbirds shoot out to great start vs Fayette, win 59-29
Sam Pezold and the North Callaway boys were off and running on Wednesday.
Pezold scored the first 10 points of the game on his way to 24 points and four 3-pointers, leading North Callaway to a 59-29 victory at Fayette.
A game after his first career double-double, Clayton Moore recorded another double-digit rebound performance with 10 boards and also displayed unwavering defense, according to head coach Matt Miller.
Fayette (2-16) was led by Payton Oeth's 12 points.
The Thunderbirds (6-14) took a 23-11 lead after the first quarter and then a 39-15 lead at halftime before keeping the Falson below 10 points in each of the final two quarters.
North Callaway (3-3 EMO) hosts Eastern Missouri Conference foe Elsberry (9-11, 3-2 EMO) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Thunderbirds lost the Bowling Green tournament fifth-place game to the Indians on Saturday 49-40.
Ladybirds put Fayette away in second half, win 56-43
The North Callaway girls received good performances all-around on Wednesday, including some of the girls' best.
The Ladybirds won 56-43 at Fayette, outscoring the Lady Falcons 33-19 in the second half. Three girls scored 13 points for North Callaway (14-7).
One of these Ladybirds was Kymorie Myers, who finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Head coach Andrew Klein said Myers played her best game and is currently playing her best basketball right now.
Abrielle Burgher also had 13 points with three 3-pointers, and Natalie Shryock matched their 13 with two 3-pointers. Riley Blevins had four points but six assists and five steals.
Fayette (13-7) was led by Addie Gibbs' 15 points and KeBrea Fair's 11 points.
North Callaway (4-2 EMO) hosts Eastern Missouri Conference foe Elsberry (13-6, 4-1 EMO) at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
