Two Middletown residents are facing multiple charges following an arrest on Saturday, March 4, in Audrain County.

According to the Audrain County Sheriff's Office during the mid-morning hours, a property owner reported they had received photos from a camera that depicted two people exiting the back door of their house along Audrain Road 572 in rural Farber. The property owner was not at home at the time. A short time later, a deputy arrived in the area and an investigation led to believe the suspects were still in the area on foot.

The deputy requested K9 units to attempt to track the suspects. Audrain County Sheriff Matt Oller and K9 Apollo, along Sgt. Derek Chism and K9 Chal arrived, and after being briefed , Sheriff Oller and K9 Apollo, tracked about a quarter mile to wooded area east of the residence and located two suspects hiding under a culvert/bridge. Once confronted by Apollo the pair surrendered without incident, items taken from the residence were found in their possession.

22-year-old Jared M. VonVain, of Middletown, was arrested for burglary and stealing. 30-year-old, Kathleen E. Smith, of Middletown, was arrested for burglary, stealing, and felony possession of a controlled substance. Both were taken to the Audrain County Jail pending formal charges being filed.

A third subject was detained and released as part of this investigation, and charges will be sought.
