Patricia Ann Mayes, 83, of Mexico, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2022, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.

Memorial Services will be at 2 p.,m. on Saturday, April 30, at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Forman officiating. Interment will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville at a later date.

Patricia was born on June 23, 1938, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Francis Myrle and Rethea Lavern (MeGee) Holton. On July 23, 2004, in Mexico, she married Charles Phillip Mayes. He survives.

Patricia graduated from Aurora (Minn.) High School and Gloucester College in New Jersey. She loved antiques, traveling and had a deep interest in animal welfare. Mrs. Mayes was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, King’s Daughters, Missouri Native Plant Society, O.W.L. (Older Women’s League), A.S.P.C.A., and the Audrain County Genealogical Society.

Survivors include her husband, Chuck Mayes of the home; one son, Stephen (Xochi) Engst of Cedar City, Utah; one daughter, Terry (Paul) Engst Doan of Jacobstown, New Jersey; one step-son, Charles T. Mayes of Mexico; five grandchildren, Katie (Dan) Capoccia, Matthew Taylor Doan, Clara Engst, Grace Engst, Manuel Engst; two great-grandchildren, Rhys Capoccia and Jax Capoccia; and one uncle, Charles E. Holton in Oklahoma.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Rethea Holton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mexico Animal Shelter. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
