Powerball jackpot skyrockets to over $1.5 billion

You still have the chance to be a billionaire, as no winner matched all six numbers to win the gigantic massive jackpot on Wednesday.

The winning numbers for Wednesday night's drawing were 22, 11, 60, 2, 35 and the Powerball is 23.

The Power Play was 2X. The jackpot was an estimated $1.2 billion after none of the tickets sold matched all six of the winning numbers drawn on Monday. No one has won with all six numbers since August 2022. The odds of winning the jackpot are razor thin at 1 in 292.2 million, according to Powerball. The Powerball is played in 45 states, including Missouri, and in Washington, D.C. Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Powerball is also warning players of possible scams. Lotteries will never contact through mail, telephone call, or social media to inform you that you've won a prize, unless you specifically entered an official lottery promotion or contest, according to Powerball. People are also being reminded, lotteries never require you to pay a fee to collect a prize. Powerball says "If you are asked to pay a fee to claim a prize, you are likely being scammed, and you should not share any personal or banking information with those entities." The current Powerball jackpot ranks as the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history and could break lottery records by Saturday night as people flock to the store to buy tickets. The largest lottery payout ever was $1.586 billion, split between three winners in California, Florida, and Tennessee. Winnings are subject to federal taxes. Many states tax lottery winnings, too. Drawings are held each Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
