A traffic stop made by Montgomery County Police yesterday (Friday), morning led to a pursuit that went through multiple counties into last (Friday) night with the suspect still on the loose.

Michael J. Brooks is accused of fleeing after the traffic stop by Montgomery City Police early yesterday morning. A pursuit then started and entered Montgomery County, Callaway County and Audrain County.

When the pursuit was in Audrain County, Brooks is accused of turning his vehicle around, driving toward law enforcement and hitting a Callaway County Sheriff's vehicle, causing minor damage. Brooks then struck an Audrain County Sheriff's vehicle head-on. The deputy was knocked unconscious and the crash left extensive damage to the patrol vehicle.

Brooks then left on foot. Law enforcement including a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter spent the morning looking for him in the area of Audrain Road 823 and 821. A passenger in the suspect's vehicle identified Brooks as the suspect.

Brooks was last seen wearing a gray hoodie. He is known to be staying in the Auxvasse or Kingdom City areas. Anyone with information can call Criemstoppers at 1-800-392-TIPS.

The Audrain County deputy that was injured was taken to local hospital and a full recovery is expected.

According to the Audrain County Sheriff's Department an arrest warrant has been issued for Michael Brooks for charges of first-degree assault on a special victim, two counts of armed criminal action, property damage over $25,000 and failure to yield to emergency vehicles.
