Willie Henry Clayton Hiatte, 85, of Mexico, died at 5:50 a.m., on Jan. 8, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.

Graveside services and military honors were held Monday Jan. 11, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville, with Rev. Raymond Iman officiating.

Pickering Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Willie was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Treloar, the son of Marsh and Leona (Jaeger) Hiatte. On June 2, 1962, in Berger, he married Darlene Struttmann who survives.

Mr. Hiatte served our country in the US Army from 1958 to 1960. He worked at A.P. Green Refractories in Mexico for 33 years. He retired in 1998.

Willie loved spending time with his grandkids which included snagging, hunting, and riding four wheelers. He spent time volunteering at the Mexico Senior Center. One of his favorite things to do was to meet his buddies at Hardee's for coffee every morning. Everyone loved Willie, he made friends everywhere he went.

In addition to his wife Darlene, survivors include one son, Kenneth W. (Dawn) Hiatte, of Warrenton; two daughters, Peggy A. Hiatte, and Penny (Tony) Rutherford, all of Mexico; two brothers, Donald Hiatte, of Fulton, and Marsh (Shirley) Hiatte, of New Haven; three sisters, Ruth Pruessner, of Union., Judy (Mike) Brown, of California, and Shirley Pease, of Wellsville; six grandchildren, Clayton Hiatte, Weston Rutherford, Auston Rutherford, James Connor, Keyari Lewis, and Maverick (Theresa) Kuda; and two great-grandchildren, Kodie and Wyatt Kuda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home or the Alzheimer's Association. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
