Woodrow Dale "Woody" Wilson, 73, of Mexico, passed away at 5:11 pm Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Noble Health, Audrain Community Hospital in Mexico.
Friends and family are invited to Woody's life celebration at a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday April 30 at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday April 30 at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Pastor Mark Carpenter will officiate. Burial with full military honors performed by American Legion Post 174 Boots-Dickson will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.
Woody was born June 28, 1947, in East Prairie, to Woodrow and Virginia B. Wilson. He was married to Patsy Kappner on May 5, 1970 in Phoenix City, Ala.
Woody served his country in the Army for 20 years, including time in Vietnam. After retirement, he served another 23 years as the food service manager for the Veterans Home in Mexico. He loved to work on cars and trucks and was a very accomplished mechanic. All of his life he worked on a variety of vehicles. He especially enjoyed the times he spent restoring and helping to restore four Sunbeam Tigers in his lifetime. Woody and his wife Patsy loved to travel with their fifth wheel camper, visiting the Northern Rockies and the beach at Padre Islands, Texas. He enjoyed going to the sand bar on the Mississippi River and deep-sea fishing whenever he could. Woody loved to hit the greens and play golf with his buddy, Jim Gott; they traveled extensively to golf tournaments all over. Woody was Christian by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Wilson; his daughter, Janie (Mike) Frankenbach; two sons, Woodrow Wayne Wilson and Woodrow John Wilson; grandchildren, Jesse Mahsman, Michael Frankenbach, Megan Frankenbach, and Tori Lee Wilson; and one sister, Betty Wilson West.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Virginia Wilson; and one brother, Robert Wayne Wilson.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Wilson, Ben West, Jesse Mahsman, Michael Frankenbach, Megan Frankenbach and Tori Lee Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Keith, Barry Hacker, Harold Fountain, George Buckman, Jim Gott, and Matt Cope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
