Missouri Military Academy supporters have exceeded the Gentry Equestrian Challenge, raising $57,427 to unlock a $250,000 investment in the Academy’s equestrian facilities and programming.
The challenge was led by alumnus and Board of Trustees member Chris Gentry ’88, who committed $100,000 and pledged an additional $100,000 if the MMA community raised $50,000 by April 15. Alumni, parents and friends surpassed that goal, securing Gentry’s full $200,000 contribution and bringing the total investment to $250,000.
The funding will support construction of an upgraded riding arena and improvements to expand cadet access to hands-on equestrian training, enhancing the Academy’s 360° Education. Work on the project is expected to begin this summer.
Gentry said the investment will not only sustain MMA’s equestrian facilities, but also strengthen and expand the program for future cadets.
"This effort proves the strength of the MMA community,” Gentry said, thanking those who stepped up to meet the challenge. “Alumni, parents, faculty and staff, and friends are all committed to MMA and her purpose. We are all dedicated to providing a place where boys become men by giving them the tools to unlock their full potential."
The campaign also paves the way for the launch of MMA’s equine-assisted therapy program, which will provide cadets opportunities to build emotional resilience, coordination and confidence while fostering connections beyond campus through community partnerships.
Participation in the equestrian program challenges cadets to develop responsibility, discipline and empathy through the care and training of horses, experiences that translate directly into stronger leadership skills.
"This investment allows us to move forward with the next phase of advancing our equestrian program, including plans for a new stable and continued development of facilities that support cadet growth," Academy President Brigadier General Richard V. Geraci, USA (Ret), said. "These experiences build self-confidence, personal responsibility and leadership, hallmarks of the MMA experience."
Gentry’s leadership in the campaign reflects a continued commitment to strengthening the cadet experience. In 2021, he and his wife Jeanne made a $40,000 gift to support construction and improvements to MMA’s baseball facilities, including upgrades to the field and team seating.
