Altrusa International of Mexico, Missouri Inc. met on Oct. 23 at The Oaks for its program meeting.
The meeting was called to order by co-President Gina Raines followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were twenty-nine members in attendance along with four guests.
Committee reports were as follows: Special Events reported around 30 members attended the wiener roast and they completed their community service project. They are planning a paint party in January. Literacy reported the dictionaries/thesauruses are in. They will be setting the books up and delivering them to area third graders in November. Community Service provided a list of the grants that will be given during the auction. Hospitality has planned the Christmas party. Membership initiated three new members – Lisa Smith, Stephanie Hoenig and Dena Robinson. A review of the upcoming Auction requirements/duties were discussed.
John Ogden, with the Veterans Home Assistance League, was the guest speaker. Ogden currently serves as treasurer of the League. He gave a synopsis of the relationships in life like work, personal relationships and giving. Like Altrusa, the Veterans Home Assistance League survives on volunteers and donations. Some of the wonderful things it has donated to the Veterans Home include a bus for transporting the veterans, the beautiful aquarium that is for their enjoyment and three massage chairs. It also plans special events throughout the year. The Veterans Home Assistance League is funded by donations and a golf tournament. It has projects already in mind for the future, one being replacing the transport van.
Members gave Happy Moments and recited the benediction to close the meeting.
