Altrusa holds program meeting at the Oaks

Altrusa International of Mexico, Missouri, Inc. met on Feb. 27 at The Oaks for their program meeting. The meeting was called to order by Co-President Suzanne Pursifull followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 18 members in attendance along with two guests.

Committee reports were as follows:

ASTRA has their “store” open for ASTRA attire.
Finance Ways and Means is planning a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, April 12 from 7-10:30 a.m. at St. Brendan’s. Menu will be biscuits and gravy, breakfast casserole, coffee and juice.
Literacy has scheduled the annual English Language Learner Movie Day for Saturday, March 15. Children will get to watch a movie with popcorn and a soda and leave with a book.
Community Service is working on their Bear and Book program. Bears have been ordered and they are working on a book. The Club voted to purchase more bears to sell at the District Conference.
Hospitality has the annual birthday party scheduled for March 13 at Mr. Murphy’s. There will be a baby shower for the new nursery at ERDCC in Vandalia.
Scholarships committee reported the application has been sent to all area schools and put on the Altrusa International of Mexico, MO Facebook page and the website.
Membership has a membership drive scheduled for March 25 at The Pearl Martini & Wine Bar from 5-6 p.m. Guests will receive a free drink and snacks will be provided.
Special Events is hosting a bourbon tasting event at Jason’s Top Shelf on April 22 at 5:30 p.m. The scrapbook will be ready for conference and the nominating committee is starting to fill the slate of officers.

Members were reminded of the joint meeting with Moberly on March 3 and of the upcoming District Conference in Kansas City April 25-27.

Cara Miller, Presser Performing Arts Board Member, Past President, Choir Director and Co-Chair of the Annual Gala was the afternoon’s guest speaker. Cara spoke about the history of Presser and the founder, Theodore Presser. She passed out a schedule of classes that will take place this year at PAC. She stated that there are several ways to become part of PAC – membership, volunteer, sewing/building sets, stage hands, audition for a play, take a class or join the choir. Members gave “Happy Moments” and recited the benediction to close the meeting.
